soon be with me some installations / updates on Kubuntu Lucid Lynx 10:04 LTS on other computers on. I also wanted to update my rescue USB Stick . There are a number of instructions this on the net, so here I am just an overview post - and my adjustments.
It has become really very easy by using Grub2 because Grub2 can boot from downloaded ISO images - and the landmark compatible and preferably on a USB Sticks used file system Fat 32 / vfat can be used. The method used here of me like me better than " Startup", the "USB Disk Creator " to use! - That's because we use very simple different ISOs next to each other can - and this simply upgradable are. Who wants to look further: This journal in December 2009 by PMT is a nice manual. - I've used ( thank you!) - And here to post an update to the currently applicable Kubuntu . Moving ahead:
- first Prerequisite: An already formatted USB stick
- second Grub2 install on the stick . With:

That was it. - The advantage: You can find a number of ISO images to use side by side, without the USB stick to hinder than disk. - rescue CD installation CDs, mini- Linuxes , media Player - or a quick little alternative distribution or development version , wants to test you ... - especially nice is that this method, all ISO images and configuration files in a single subfolder / boot can disappear. - "Startup ", however, leaving behind so ugly files such as wubi . exe "at the top level of the USB sticks - hamper the clarity of use.

It makes sense for the guidance of PMT in the above blog entry to proceed. - Here is my adaptation for the current Kubuntu . - Besides the modified file name, I had to change the boot parameters, so it worked.

} minimum I use currently here: Kubuntu Lucid Lynx Desktop CD for 32-bit ( direct download ) TinyCore Linux - only 10MB large, functional and extensible mini-Linux for rescue purposes etc. And Netboot . me - a small 300 KB Image ( download ) that it allows, for example Ubuntu and other distros to boot from the Internet. Finally a conclusion: If you already
Grub2 ( installed by default from Ubuntu / Kubuntu 9.04), uses this method to be a rescue - or Live system recommended. - It is then easy to use and more functional as "USB Disk Creator ! - Anyone have Grub1 ( legacy ") uses should, however, consider at least good, if Grub2 should also replace the old boot sectors: Nice new features in Grub2 are facing a few bugs and uncertainties . - At a point where you need reliability.
